Innovations for the Medicine of the Future: KUKA at MEDICA 2025

Cutting-edge technologies have become indispensable in medicine and healthcare. At one of the world's largest medical technology trade fairs, KUKA demonstrates how robot-based solutions can support doctors and therapists – and offers young talents a platform for their medical robotics ideas with the KUKA Innovation Award.

More and more clinics and healthcare facilities are relying on the latest robot-based medical technology. "Robotics will increasingly be used in healthcare in the coming years, opening up countless new possibilities for the benefit of patients," says Axel Weber, Vice President of the Medical Robotics Business Unit at KUKA.

From November 17 to 20, KUKA will showcase innovations in medical robotics at the MEDICA trade fair in Düsseldorf, Hall 10, Stand A22.

LBR MED and KR QUANTEC HC: Robotics in Action for Medicine

The sensitive KUKA LBR Med is the world's first robot certified for integration into a medical product. Thanks to its high sensitivity, flexibility, ergonomics, and safety standards, it is used in numerous medical applications today. Trade fair visitors can test various modes and scenarios around the LBR Med at the Medical Feature Cell at MEDICA. These include, among others, teaching-by-demonstration, telemanipulation, or the collision avoidance feature, which can be tested in a playful manner using a gaming controller at the demo cell.

KUKA also presents a model of the KR QUANTEC HC. The robot, designed for heavy loads up to 300 kg, is used in systems where heavy medical equipment needs to be moved, such as X-ray C-arms or linear accelerators for radiation therapy. The robot enables highly precise examinations and treatments of patients.

Medical Robotics Challenge 2.0: The Final of the KUKA Innovation Award 2025

A special focus this year is also on the KUKA Innovation Award. This year's robotics competition is themed "Medical Robotics Challenge 2.0". The five finalist teams were each equipped with an LBR Med and a vision system from NDI. NDI is the global leader in medical navigation products and is committed to advancing navigation technology to drive medical advancements. The Innovation Award teams will present their innovative and creative concepts for improving preventive care, medical treatment, or surgical procedures directly at the KUKA booth. An international jury will announce the winner of the €20,000 innovation competition at the trade fair on November 19, 2025 at 11 am.
